1)Physically Unfitness-
If you’re physically unfit, it will be much harder to concentrate. If your body is in a state of fatigue and discomfort at all times, the likelihood that you’ll be able to focus or even stay awake are slim. So make sure that not only do you eat well and maintain good hygiene, but also take time for yourself to exercise regularly so that when it comes down to getting work done, your physicality won’t get in the way.
Another typical reason for losing attention rapidly is not getting enough exercise. Exercising aids hormone regulation and insulin processing. It also helps with depression and anxiety problems. It promotes blood flow throughout brain tissue which allows us more access to glucose (energy) and oxygen while releasing toxins from metabolic processes.
2)Eating and drinking habit-
What you eat and drink can also have a significant impact on your ability to relax into your task. To begin, make sure you’re sufficiently hydrated. Water makes up around 60% of your body, so if you’re dehydrated, you’ll feel sluggish and your brain won’t function as effectively.
No matter what you’re doing, digestive disturbances and gut flora imbalances are inconvenient. An upset stomach is unpleasant, but it also inhibits you from absorbing all of the nutrients in your meal. This implies that even if you eat healthy, you might not be getting the nourishment you need to concentrate.
3)Distractions in Abundance –
Sitting in front of a computer screen means that your peripheral vision is constantly bombarded by blinking notifications, scrolling social media feeds and new emails. According to a 2012 research by the McKinsey Global Institute, people spend 13 hours or 28% of their workweek processing emails. All of this breaks the flow you’re trying to establish with your task at hand.
When it comes to our level of focus, distractions are like drugs: they hijack the attention system (attentional control), frustrate cognitive function and impair concentration on what’s actually important for now. More than just being unpleasant, these disruptions weaken performance over time as well because we become less able to resist them. The more often you succumb to distraction, the easier it becomes – which only makes things worse!
4)An Emotional Brain-
If you have a bad attitude about your work, it might sabotage your productivity and attention. It’s important to spend some time getting to know yourself so you can figure out what causes emotional outbursts and a loss of focus.
The brain is like a muscle in the sense that it can be strengthened with use. The more you practice focusing, the better your ability to stay focused will become. This happens through something called neuroplasticity –which means our brains are constantly changing and adapting based on how we live life.(I’m so sleepy!)
Infusing your life with optimism is one of the finest things you can do. You’ll be more engaged in what you’re doing if your job elicits favorable feelings, and staying on track will be simpler.
5)Multitasking-
Multitasking is a myth. It’s impossible to be productive and multitask at the same time. What most people usually do is switch back and forth between tasks, which means they’re really just “multi-wasting” their time.
Furthermore, multitasking might cause you to perform as if your IQ has dropped 10-15 points. That’s a big reduction in your effectiveness, no matter how brilliant you are. This was equated by a University of London research to losing a complete night’s sleep.
It’s better to focus on one task at a time: complete it before moving onto the next thing. This will help you be more productive in general because you won’t have as many incomplete projects laying around waiting for your attention.
At the end of each day, write down what task or project was completed during that day so that you can see all your progress instead of feeling like there are huge gaps where nothing got accomplished.
